Convenience

A built-in microwave oven combo can free up space on your kitchen counters and provide a modern appearance to your kitchen. Since it functions as a microwave in addition to a traditional oven it is able to heat leftovers, frozen foods and meals that are pre-packaged in one appliance. It can also eliminate the need for a separate countertop appliance or large wall ovens that are stand-alone. A combination microwave oven can be a great option if you want to upgrade your kitchen without undertaking any major renovations.

You can find microwave ovens in various styles to match your kitchen decor. Some microwave oven combos feature a swing-out right-to-left door or drop-down models that open the same way as traditional ovens. There is also microwave ovens that open inside a drawer, like cabinets. The microwave drawers can be easily reached and are great for small spaces.

Combination microwaves also come with many features that simplify meal preparation and make it more convenient. For instance, some models come with sensors that allow you to steam your food and automatically adjusts the time and temperature of your food to ensure that you get perfect steaming of your fish and vegetables. Other features include a broil feature that lets you quickly melt cheese or brown your favorite dish and Crispwave(tm) technology that lets you grill, bake and crisp foods.

Consider how often you'll use each feature when choosing a microwave-oven combination. If  Ovens And Hobs  will be using the oven more often than the micro, you may be better off buying an oven that doubles as a wall. It's also important to note that a combo oven typically has less capacity than a conventional standalone oven.

When you've chosen the right microwave and oven combination to meet your needs, consider the installation procedure. Over-the-range models are mounted over your stove or cooktop and connect to an electrical outlet, whereas built-in microwaves are inserted directly into the walls or cabinets of your kitchen. Some models even have trim kits that let you seamlessly blend your new microwave with your kitchen cabinets.

Energy Efficiency

Built-in microwave oven combos are a great option for those with smaller kitchens in their house or apartment. They can save space in cabinets that would otherwise be occupied by separate appliances. They can also help reduce energy consumption. They generally provide a more efficient cooking method than traditional wall ovens since they consume less energy. They can also be used to cook food or warm food items. This reduces the necessity for other appliances such as toasters or warming plates.

In evaluating the possibility of amending energy conservation standards, DOE conducts several analyses that include market and technology assessment screening analysis, engineering analysis, and a national impact analysis (NIA). For this SNOPR, DOE will rely on its existing engineering analysis of microwave ovens to determine the maximum efficiency improvements that are technically feasible for this particular product class.

In the engineering analysis, DOE will compare the design parameters of a microwave against a set of energy performance objectives. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class.

As part of NIA, DOE will assess the effects on consumers, including cost savings over the lifecycle, as well as the simple payback period (PBP). DOE will utilize the Government Regulatory Impact Model, with an adaptation for ovens that can be microwaved, to calculate the industry net present value (NPV).

Manufacturer impacts will be evaluated as well, and DOE will use a modified version of its Industry Cash Flow model, which has been adapted for this product type to calculate manufacturing NPV. Finally, DOE will consider the potential impact on small-business manufacturers as well as other subgroups of manufacturers to identify any that could be disproportionally affected by these proposals.

In addition, DOE will consider whether the tests for microwave ovens need to be updated to include active mode energy use and an active mode energy use measure. Currently, test procedures only cover standby mode power consumption.

Design

Microwaves create heat by causing water molecules vibrate in food. Wall ovens rely upon the circulation of hot air while microwaves rely on waves to cause food molecules to vibrate. Combination wall ovens combine these two distinct appliances into one unit that saves kitchen space and provides sleek, modern design. It is important to consider your budget and goals before deciding on a combination wall oven. A few of the combo wall ovens in our ratings have issues with performance or design.
